If you are not fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in the comfort of your own home, or if one or both of those appliances have stopped working, then you are going to need to get your clothes washed at the nearest laundromat. This can be frustrating if you have small children because you essentially have to keep them entertained in a small room that they are not allowed to leave. You can't bring a ton of toys because there is not a lot of room in the laundromat and you don't want the toys to get in anyone's way. Here are some tips for entertaining your children at the laundromat so that the process is as painless as possible.
1. Coloring Books
The first idea is to equip your children with coloring books. Coloring books are a great activity because they don't require your child to have any more room than his or her lap to use it. To make sure that there are no spills, keep all of the crayons in a small bag and staple that bag to the back of the coloring book. The back should be made out of a stronger material than the pages in order to protect the book. Make sure that you do not allow your child to have this particular coloring book unless you are going to to the laundromat in order to avoid risking him getting bored of it.
Another interesting option is to get your child a small tape player and some books that come with read-along tapes. The laundromat will likely keep you too busy to read to your child and will be noisy. Your child can avoid all of this by listening to someone else read the book aloud on tape. It might seem old fashioned, but you can still find these book and tape combo packs at libraries and the tapes will be very easy for your child to change him or herself. Go to the library before you go to the laundromat.
3. Interactive, Electronic Games
Finally, you can also consider using interactive, electronic games to keep your child busy. These games include activities where you have to push colored lights in the order that the machine displays or you have to hit the correct buttons as the instructions are given to you. Both of these toys will be sure to keep your children entertained.
